Set of Six ‘Basket’ Chairs by Gian Franco Legler, 1951

€2,400.00

Beautiful set of six original ‘Basket’ dining chairs, designed by Swiss-Italian designer Gian Franco Legler in 1951. The chair was originally conceived for an Italian restaurant and became Legler’s best-known design, receiving the Good Design Award from the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1953.

Each chair combines a finely woven natural rattan shell with a slender black metal frame. The continuous woven seat and backrest create a light, organic silhouette, contrasted by the minimal architectural lines of the steel base. Despite their delicate appearance, the chairs are practical, comfortable and stackable.

The set of six is in very good vintage condition. The rattan has developed a beautiful warm patina while remaining remarkably well preserved, with only minor traces of age and use.

Dimensions approximately:
H 81 × W 48 × D 54 cm
Seat height: 44–45 cm.

Sold as a complete set of six.
