Rare Mid-Century Modernist Lounge Chair in Bent Plywood, Steel and Olive Green Upholstery, circa 1950s
Rare modernist lounge chair dating from approximately the 1950s, featuring an unusual combination of bent plywood, black tubular steel and olive-green upholstery.
The chair stands out for its sculptural construction, with a beautifully curved plywood seat that extends upwards to form the armrests. The warm wooden shell contrasts with the black metal frame, while the olive-green upholstery adds a refined touch of colour.
The generously padded seat, upholstered armrests and button-tufted backrest provide comfort without compromising the chair's architectural appearance. The backrest is independently supported by two curved metal brackets, creating an open and lightweight silhouette.
The design reflects the influence of Bauhaus principles and postwar European modernism, combining functional construction with carefully considered proportions and materials.
The chair remains in good vintage condition, showing signs of age and use. The plywood displays a beautiful natural patina, with visible marks, scratches and colour variations. The upholstery also shows signs of wear consistent with its age, contributing to the authentic vintage character of the piece.
An unusual and highly decorative lounge chair, suitable for both modern and eclectic interiors.
dimensions: 65 cm wide / 60 cm deep / 80 cm height / Seat height 40 cm
