Pair of Hand-Carved Brutalist Wooden Chairs, France, 1950s
Exceptional pair of handcrafted brutalist chairs from France, dating back to the 1950s. These sculptural chairs are entirely made out of solid wood and feature a deeply hand-carved surface with expressive organic textures throughout the seat and legs. Their primitive yet highly architectural appearance gives them a strong artistic presence, somewhere between functional furniture and collectible sculpture.
The angular seat shape combined with the thick carved backrest creates a very distinctive silhouette. Beautiful dark patina and visible traces of hand tools add warmth and authenticity to the pieces. Perfect as accent chairs, decorative objects, or within wabi-sabi, rustic, brutalist, or minimalist interiors.
Good vintage condition with age-related wear and patina consistent with time and use. Small signs of use and imperfections enhance their character.
Dimensions per chair:
Height: 62 cm
Width: 60 cm
Depth: 36 cm
Seat height: 35 cm
