Beautiful and sculptural solid pine bench designed by Danish architect Jacob Kielland Brandt and produced by I. Christiansen during the 1960s.
The bench is characterized by its long, clean silhouette and carefully considered construction. A wide solid pine seat is supported by six slender, tapered and outward-splayed legs, giving the substantial bench an unexpectedly light appearance. The long backrest is connected to the seat by three distinctive trapezoidal wooden supports.
Particularly beautiful are the visible wooden joints and circular plugs in the seat. Rather than concealing its construction, the design makes these details part of the overall expression. The slightly shaped ends of both seat and backrest further soften the otherwise architectural form.
The pine has developed a warm honey-coloured patina over time, with the grain, knots and natural variations of the timber remaining clearly visible.
The bench remains in used vintage condition, with scratches, marks, small dents and general traces of use throughout. These signs of age are clearly visible in the photographs and contribute to the character and patina of the piece.
