Pair of ‘Medea’ Chairs by Vittorio Nobili for Fratelli Tagliabue, Italy, 1955
Beautiful pair of original ‘Medea’ chairs, designed by Italian designer Vittorio Nobili in 1955 and produced by Fratelli Tagliabue. The model is one of Nobili’s best-known designs and a distinctive example of post-war Italian furniture design.
The chairs feature a sculptural shell made from curved plywood, supported by slender black-painted metal rod legs. The characteristic circular opening at the base of the backrest emphasizes the flowing shape of the shell, while the visible brass fittings form a subtle decorative detail.
The chairs are in good vintage condition with age-related traces of use. Both wooden seating shells have undergone restorations, which remain visible on closer inspection. These interventions are consistent with their age and do not detract from the strong overall appearance of the pair.
Dimensions approximately:
H 82 × W 46 × D 56 cm
Seat height: 44 cm.
Sold as a set of two.
